Sinamatella is a small campsite in Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe
(former name Rhodesia).
Sinamatella:
Established in
1966, Sinamatella Camp sits atop a 55m mesa with a commanding 50km view in ail
directions. The camp is located near the northern boundary of
Hwange National Park
on a plateau overlooking a distant riverbed and grassy plains.
It is very scenic. The name Sinamatella came from the failure by the European
settlers to pronounce the name of a local shrub called
"
chinamattrfo"
which had
characteristics of stick to clothes when brushed against. Sinamatella is an
Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) for black and white rhino. Major species to be
seen are both the black and white rhino. elephants, wild dogs, lions, hyenas,
hippopotamus and crocodiles.
